Ok, let me just say that this DIY floral wall backdrop this gorgeous momma whipped up for her little one’s first birthday is kind of beyond good, and definitely deserves a standing ovation. My jaw would drop in the best possible way if I walked into a party like this. With yummy cakes and treats from Sift Dessert Bar , sweet details from Rifle Paper Co., and too many details to list – these images from Sarah Hebenstreit for Modern Kids Co. are just as cute as they come.
Planning my daughter Olivia’s first birthday party was as joyful as planning our wedding. It gave me great pleasure to plan every little detail for this very special occasion. I wanted the party to be filled with all things girly, pretty and colorful. I thought that a garden party would be a perfect theme.
My inspiration started with my love of Rifle Paper Co’s floral prints which are very whimsical and feminine. I wrapped boxes in Rifle’s floral wrapping paper and decorated with banners and place cards in their beautiful patterns. In keeping with the garden theme, I created a floral backdrop over the dessert bar using oversized tissue paper flowers in my color palette: shades of pink, coral, peach, cream and green with gold & silver accents. I am an ardent fan of sweets, so I wanted a dessert bar with many choices- cakes, cupcakes, pastel candies, cookies and French macarons. The kids and the adults loved it! My mother-in-law made a homemade smash cake for Olivia covered with exquisite pale pink icing roses.
A talented friend created lovely floral centerpieces for the tables and mantel that included tulips, garden roses, dahlias, ranunculuses, chamomile and nigella in shades of pink, coral, orange and white. I felt like royalty wearing the beautiful floral crowns that she created for Olivia and me. The cakes were also garnished with fresh flowers which were splendid against the white and pale pink frosting. My friend truly understood the garden party look I wanted to achieve. As if flowers were not enough, she also created a custom water color painting of an “O” covered in flowers, and guests signed the matting that would surround the lovely “O” in its frame. The finished piece now hangs in my daughter’s nursery as a memory of the wonderful day.
Month by month photos of Olivia from birth to first birthday hung on floral vines, and flower pots were used to hold wooden cutlery and party favors. My daughter’s middle name is “Rose,” and rose seed packets were given to our guests in honor of our birthday girl.
Becoming parents has been the greatest gift my husband and I can imagine. I feel so blessed to have this sweet daughter who fills my heart, and I hope that years from now, she will look at these photos and feel the love that went into every detail of her first birthday party.
