Tis the season for gatherings a plenty, and coming armed with the perfect hostess gift is sure to put you on the nice list. If you are scratching your noggin’ trying to figure out what in the world to bring the hostess with the mostess of your next soiree, we totally have you covered with this darling little DIY. Mulled wine anyone?
This the perfect fall/winter hostess gift, whether you’re coming for Friendsgiving or staying for the weekend, because you can scale it up or down. You can keep this gift super simple with just wine, oranges, and spices, or you can make it really luxe by adding quality honey, brandy, and cute mugs.
Wire crate
Gold spray paint
2 bags ivory & gold kraft paper fill
Buffalo check ribbon (we found ours at Michaels)
Weck jar
Enough spices to fill the jar: cinnamon sticks, anise stars, & whole cloves*
1 bottle of red wine (think cabernet sauvignon or merlot)
1 bottle of brandy or cognac (optional)
1 bottle of honey (optional)
Honey dipper (optional)
2 copper mugs (optional)
Satsuma oranges
Mulled Wine recipe cards
White cardstock
Scissors
*Tip: Check out the “international” aisle of your grocery store, where they usually have bulk spices at a much lower cost than the baking aisle.
Place the wire crate in a cardboard box. Spray the crate gold in several light coats, turning frequently to get all angles and sides. Let dry 1 hour.
Print out the mulled wine recipe cards onto white cardstock. Cut out along the gray lines.
Fill the weck jar with mulling spices. Use this proportion of spices: 2 cinnamon sticks, 3 anise stars, 8 whole cloves. Multiply up until you fill the jar.
Fill the crate with the shredded paper fill. Add a bottle of wine, the spice jar, recipe card, a few oranges, and any other accessories. Tie up with the buffalo check ribbon before heading off to your hosts’ house!
